Why the Hybrid Position Is Integrated

The combination is purposeful. Economic knowledge is needed to study production, distribution, consumption, market structure, competition, resource allocation, public policy, and the creation and preservation of wealth. Financial and investment knowledge is needed to determine how those economic forces affect financial condition, capitalization, cash flow, valuation, investment risk, and organizational decisions. The same assignment therefore moves from economic explanation and quantitative testing to financial interpretation and recommendation.

The hybrid position is more sophisticated and specialized because the employee cannot treat either occupation as a separate or mechanical function. A conclusion about market or policy conditions is incomplete without analysis of its financial consequences. A valuation or investment conclusion is incomplete without economic theory, statistical testing, market context, and policy analysis explaining why the financial result may occur.

The position is also resistant to automation. Software can organize data, execute calculations, and display model outputs, but it cannot independently determine which economic, econometric, accounting, or financial method is most appropriate to a particular research question. The employee must identify assumptions, evaluate data reliability, distinguish correlation from causation, reconcile conflicting evidence, interpret uncertainty, and change the analytical approach when the facts or context require it.

Employment and Knowledge Context

NEOFORTUNITY INC.'s leadership is seeking a part-time candidate for 20 hours per week at $74.78 per hour. The requested employment period is September 28, 2026 through September 27, 2029, and the worksite is 1730 W Cameron Avenue, Suite 200, West Covina, CA 91790. The candidate must draw meaningful insights from an integrated course sequence in Business Economics and translate that knowledge into research concerning markets, organizations, policy, finance, and investments and into strategic guidance about research priorities, resource allocation, and expected economic and financial outcomes.

The principal knowledge question is not answered by one predetermined response: which combination of economic theory, econometric methods, accounting analysis, and financial models is most appropriate to the matter under consideration, and when must another method be selected? Asking that question is essential to adapting theory to practical application and producing a defensible conclusion rather than an unreviewed software output.

The Position Requires the Employee To

  • Conduct basic economic research involving production, distribution, consumption, industrial organization, market performance, resource allocation, and regulatory or public-policy effects.
  • Compile, verify, and interpret economic, statistical, market, organizational, accounting, and financial information in support of the organization's research priorities.
  • Apply economic theory, probability, statistics, and econometrics to formulate research questions, test hypotheses, estimate relationships, evaluate policy effects, and compare alternative explanations.
  • Analyze financial statements, cash flows, capitalization, valuation assumptions, financial condition, investment alternatives, operating performance, and risk under different economic and policy conditions.
  • Develop and compare economic, econometric, and financial models; examine assumptions and limitations; and explain why a selected method is appropriate to the question under consideration.
  • Integrate economic and financial findings into reproducible research reports, analytical memoranda, models, presentations, and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Communicate findings to organizational leadership and other stakeholders and review analytical work prepared by volunteers, trainees or interns, and independent contractors for methodological and factual reliability.

Required Body of Specialized Knowledge

Because this role deals with uncertainty and multiple possible outcomes, NEOFORTUNITY INC. expects the candidate to possess a precise and specific body of knowledge pertaining to:

  1. Microeconomic Theory;
  2. Macroeconomic Theory;
  3. Mathematical Methods;
  4. Probability and Statistics;
  5. Econometrics;
  6. Financial Accounting and Reporting;
  7. Financial Markets and Investment Analysis; and
  8. Labor, Organizational, and Public-Policy Economics.

This body of knowledge must include the theoretical and practical application of consumer and firm behavior, competition, market structure, economic growth, business cycles, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, causal reasoning, financial reporting, valuation, capitalization, investment risk, incentives, government programs, and policy evaluation. The position also requires knowledge of the North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) product framework for NAICS 5417, including Working Group Code 1.6.6 as applicable to the organization's research activities.

Integrated Application of Knowledge

The Economist occupation and Financial and Investment Analyst occupation are inextricably linked and must be integrated for: (i) adapting economic and financial theory to practical application in a changing market and policy environment; (ii) selecting the most appropriate analytical, valuation, and risk-assessment solution for a specific context; and (iii) changing the strategic focus of the analysis when adaptation or selection of existing methods is not sufficient.

Minimum Education

To be eligible for consideration, the candidate must possess a U.S. Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics. There is no separate prior-employment requirement. Eligibility rests on the precise and specific body of specialized knowledge developed through the required Business Economics degree and directly related to the duties of the position.
